Promote Your Website With A Google Profile

February 26, 2010 – 8:44 am

Have you ever searched for your name or ‘self-Googled’ yourself? Chances are that you may have done this and been disappointed at the results. So, if you are wondering how you can have more control over your name’s search results then it’s time to set up a Google profile.

What is a Google Profile?

A Google profile is a simple link that leads to an information page, which contains personalised information about you and your business. This link usually appears at the bottom of most name-query search pages in the US.

A Google Profile is yet another good way to promote your website, your business. Its potential is yet unexplored, but since the profile link appears at the bottom of search pages carrying name-query, chances are that your profile will be clicked on and glanced at by many people who remember your name but not your company’s. So how do you go about setting a Google profile? All you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions below and start promoting your business website.

Creating a Google Account – Go to www.google.com/profile. Click the ‘Create my profile’ button. Sign in or create a Google account if you already don’t have an AdWords/AdSense account.

Creating a Google Profile – Once signed in, you will see 3 tabs – About me, Photos, Contact information. Fill the necessary fields in these tabs as per your choice. Once done, you will see personalised information page that has all the info you just filled up including your business website link, link to your blog and other relevant company information. If you sell products, it is a good idea to upload images of some of your best products as well as links to your Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn profile. You can also customize your URL by giving it a unique and interesting name.

Finally, give the profile one last look and save the change. You are ready to use your Google profile now!

Use A Google Webmaster Account To Check Your Website

January 28, 2010 – 8:25 am

A Google Webmaster is an effective application by Google that provides you an excellent method to communicate with the Search Engine for the benefit of your website. That’s why it’s important to learn to use your Google webmaster account to check your website on a daily basis.

I am listing down some of the most important advantages of having a Google webmaster account to check your website.

  1. Quick indexing – Having a Google webmaster account ensures that your entire website is indexed quickly. Typically, with link building method, search engine spiders only read the first page of your website and may revisit after a few days to read the next two pages and so on.
  2. Adding additional information – Using your Google webmaster account you can provide extra and useful business information about your website directly to Google. You can simply specify the information you’d like Google to use and it will not be ignored.
  3. Remove specific indexed pages – This is a useful feature for those of you who offer special promotional offers or schemes for a limited period of time. Once your offer is over, you now want to remove these pages from being found on searches. Using your webmaster account you can remove these specific indexed pages and prevent them from showing up on SERPs. Of course, if you want to de-index your entire website, you can do that as well. It’s important to not share your account details with anyone you don’t trust!
  4. More tools – Google webmaster account has many other tools that can help improve your website. One such is the site content analysis tool. With the help of this tool you can see and change the duplicate content found by Google on your site. This is especially true for META tags and description and title tags. Uniqueness of these tabs helps in the ways search engines display your website.
